Winter Travel - November 2014

November saw a bit of snow!  After one fall we had enough of a cold snap that the fog would boil up off of the Missouri in the mornings and coat everything along the river's banks in thick hoarfrost.  I was fortunate enough to be making a trip back up to Havre to try to help get the family ready to move during one of these cold snaps.  I pulled over at Cascade south of Great Falls just as the fog was clearing.   The surface of the river was as calm and still as it could possibly be...

...and frost coated everything!

The geese were taking off and landing in huge flocks!

And the cottonwoods were majestic in their bejeweled winter raiment!

North of Great Falls I stopped in at Fort Benton, which has always been a favorite stop for our family!  The Missouri was bearing ice in slow, stately rafts upon a mirror-clear surface and nearly perfect bridge reflection!

And even the icicles wore hoarfrost!

As did the holiday lights...

And the bushes!
